A Word of  Encouragement from our
Director of Missions

Living Happily Ever After

Most of us are familiar with Jesus’ “Sermon on the Mount” (Matthew 5-7). His introduction to the sermon includes what we usually refer to as “The Beatitudes.” Each of the eight (or nine) beatitudes begins with the word “Blessed” which literally means, “Happy.” If those statements describe the inner qualities of a follower of Christ and promise him blessings in the future, perhaps we should take another serious look at them. In doing so, ask yourself, What makes a person happy?...What makes me happy?

Pastor Rick Warren says, “Happiness is a choice. You are as happy as you choose to be. If you don’t know how to be happy with what you have, you will never be happy with more.” To what extent would you say, “I’m living a happy life?” Is there really such a thing as living happily-ever-after? Maybe so.

In this issue of the Encourager, I have posted an outline for “It Might Preach” which I compiled to help us choose happiness. I hope you’ll read that and, who knows, you Pastors might want to “improve upon it and preach it yourself.” Have a happy summer and biblical happiness for whatever is left of the rest of your life!

  Encouragingly Yours, Russell R. Cook
